Comparing Ukranian Medical Schools
There are currently eleven 6 year medical school courses taught in English in the Ukraine. One of these programmes allows students to receive credit for the first year of the course based on previous undergraduate courses taken. If students want to finish their degree in 4 or 5 years, they may want to also consider applying in countries like Poland, Ireland and Australia, where several 4 and 5 year medical programmes are available.
Although none of the universities in the Ukraine with medical programmes were ranked in the top 500 worldwide in 2010, a ranking from UNESCO of the top 200 education institutions in the Ukraine (including medical schools) is available online in Ukrainian. Worldwide rankings and relevant rankings for each country (including the translation of relevant results from the UNESCO ranking) are available in the MSAG Worldwide 2012-2013 guidebook, allowing applicants to quickly compare medical schools in different countries.
The English program class sizes tend to be smaller in the Ukraine compared to other countries, with most schools offering between roughly 20 to 80 places each year.
Admissions Requirements
To apply, students usually send their application directly to the university, alongside their secondary school certificate, and the medical school then sends them an invitation letter to study in the Ukraine, which allows them to obtain the study visa they need. Usually there are no admissions exams required, and if students are interviewed, this is done mainly to ensure that they are proficient in English.
