Comparing Romanian Medical Schools

There are seven 6-year medical programs in Romania offered in English, however, there are no 4 or 5 year medical programmes offered. Students wishing to complete their degree in 4 or 5 years may wish to consider applying in countries such as Ireland, Poland or Australia where more 4 and 5 year medical courses are available. The most comprehensive information on applying and gaining admission to medical schools in Romania and these countries is available in the MSAG Worldwide 2012-2013 guidebook. You can also find some information on our website and on the schools' websites, although complete and uptodate information is not available on many of the schools' websites.

In 2011, the universities in Romania with medical schools taught in English were not ranked in the top 500 universities worldwide. Note, however, that rankings are not always an indication of quality of teaching, and many universities with excellent teaching are not ranked in the top 500.

As is the case in Poland, several schools in Romania have over 100 international students studying medicine in English, coming from several countries including countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.

Admissions Requirements

Most medical schools have an admissions examination for international applicants, either to test knowledge of secondary school sciences or to test English language. To gain admission, E.U students need to have their credentials accepted by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (referred to as CNRED in Romanian), and non-E.U applicants need to get permission to study from the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation.
